About Us
Mission: To connect, cultivate, and Inspire the next generation of philanthropists.About
Connected by the desire to change our community, Next Gen empowers its member to take action.
Next Gen Philanthropy was created in 2013 by a group of young professionals who were interested in engaging their peers in the world of giving. After just five years, the group donated more than $80,000.00 to non-profits in central California’s San Joaquin Valley and developed a prestigious reputation as the group to use to recruit young board members.
The group is led by young professionals who are emerging leaders living and working in the Central Valley community and includes 15-30 members per year.

How Members Take Action
Membership
To kickstart the year, members attend a 4-hour orientation (in July) where they are encouraged to get to know each other and then develop values and mission statements for the year’s cohort. In the time following, members attend monthly meetings* where community leaders present on the issues currently facing the community.
*Monthly meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month August-November & January-May from 12:00 – 1:30 pm
Grantmaking
After developing the values and mission for the year’s cohort in orientation, members split off into smaller committees that establish a grant. Throughout the first half of the year (August thru December) the committee interviews non-profits and invite them to apply for the grant. From those that apply, the committee votes on which non-profit to award the donation.
Board Training
Second and third-year members are encouraged to deepen their knowledge of leadership in non-profit work by attending an intensive training program which discusses the fundamentals of service on a board of directors. Graduates of the board training program are highly sought after by local non-profits for their open board seats.
Group Leadership
Second and third-year members are encouraged to deepen their knowledge of leadership in non-profit work by engaging with Next Gen’s grantmaking committee as the committee chair or by serving as a member on the Next Gen Executive Committee.
Volunteering in the Community
Two volunteering opportunities are organized and arranged for members.
Socials and networking Opportunities
Throughout the year, members are invited to socials with the group and encouraged build strong connections with each other.
